How To Kill Your Xbox - The Towel Trick Explained

Quick and dirty fixes for electronic gadgets have usually involved abuse of some kind. This included smashing, hitting, shaking, or kicking to get the device to work. The abuse worked because loose connections would reconnect if you were persistent enough. But the mechanical shock weakens other connections which make the device fail at a later time.

One of the more well known "fixes" for the red ring of death problem is called the towel trick. It also falls into this category of abusive, quick fixes. Rather than giving the Xbox a swift kick, the "cure" involves baking the internal components at extreme temperatures so that broken connections are resoldered again and warped components get reshaped.

The method to this madness starts with wrapping your Xbox with a few towels. Then you turn on the Xbox for about 15 minutes and you're finished. Now you're all set to enjoy some gaming sessions. When the next ring of death error happens you just reapply the trusty towel trick.

If the method works, then why is the towel trick a bad idea? As mentioned above, the towel trick subjects the internal chips to damaging temperatures. Avoiding heat damage to components during manufacture is a big issue in the electronics industry. To get the soldering temperature high enough for a good solder join without causing chip damage is no trivial thing.

So the towel trick gives you a temporary remedy at the expense of causing more internal component damage. This damage will then lead to still more failures at a future time. When you use the towel trick for the next problem, your Xbox becomes more damaged. There's just so many times that this can be repeated before the towel trick becomes useless because the damage is too great. This procedure is a fast downward spiral that transforms your Xbox into scrap.

Another issue that concerns safety is that the towel fix is dangerous. The Xbox puts out an enormous amount heat (thus the need for a cooling system). Because of the insulating action of the towels, the heat doesn't go anywhere and rapidly builds up. If your Xbox starts burning, other combustibles adjacent to your Xbox (like your house) may also burn.

The towel trick also defies common sense and in this case, counterintuitive doesn't work. The red ring of death and several other Xbox problems all come down to the Xbox generating too much heat and having an inadequate cooling system to cope with it. Solving this problem by adding more heat is like baling water into a sinking boat.

Surviving an Economic Recession

There is no doubt about the fact that an economic recession is upon us. The question we are all now asking ourselves is how best to get through this.

There are really only three outcomes. We could actually prosper during this time, we might not be affected at all, (or perhaps just a little) and finally, we could be financially devastated. Obviously, our wish is to prosper regardless of the economic conditions. So the question to ask ourselves, is how can we do that?

I think we all realize that there is certainly an ebb and flow to the economy. There are times of great economic growth, times of relative stability and then times when the economy draws back and we find ourselves in a recession, or perhaps even a depression.

I recommend that you do a little research and read some informative material regarding the historical causes of recessions. There are many great books out there but one that I can particularly recommend is by William Bonner. It is called "Financial Reckoning Day: Surviving the Soft Depression of the 21st Century". You might be able to find a copy at your local library. If they don't have a copy, in most cases the librarian will be happy to order one in.

There are a few common sense things that we can all do. Certainly we would want to minimize our spending and even though it might be difficult, we should attempt to save money for the possibility of even tighter times ahead. Now is not the time to buy anything other than necessities, such as food and gas. We still need to eat and to drive our vehicles to work.

Taking on any new debt would be a very unwise course of action. It is possible that we could afford that monthly payment for that new car, especially as the prices are rock bottom at present, but in such unpredicable times, we do not know what our financial situation might be in just a few short months.

There are numerous way to earn a little extra income. One idea that comes to mind is renting out those few extra rooms in your basement or home. With so many people losing their homes, there would be no trouble at all getting those rooms rented out.

McGraw-Hill Research did a study and found that companies that maintained or even increased their marketing during the 1981-82 recession actually saw a 275% average sales growth over the following five years. In comparison, those companies who cut their marketing, only saw a 19% minimal increase over the same 5 year period. Starting a home based business during a recession is a great idea. The experts say that this is actually the best time in 70 years to build a profitable business.

I am sure we realize that these fluctuations in the economy are inevitable, but they do not have to adversely affect us if we make smart decisions and take a few very specific actions. Add Music From iPod To Computer - The Way To Do It

There is a Finder Tab there that you must click in order to find hidden files. Click the Relaunch Finder and double click the iPod's icon on your desktop. By double clicking the Ipod Control Folder, you will find a series of folders, among them the music folder. Manually drag this folder to your desktop to copy the files from your iPod.

On the other hand, if you are using Windows, just plug your iPod and launch iTunes. Pick the iPod icon that you see listed on the iTunes source list. Then, check the Manually Manage Songs Playlist option and the Disk Use option. Look for the iPod icon in My Computer. Proceed to Tools Menu, Folder Options and then View Tap. You will find the Hidden Files and Folders option there. The Show Hidden Files and Folders option should b enabled. Next click your iPod folder and the iPod control folder. Drag the music folder to your desktop so you can add music from iPod to computer.

Creating A Dreamweaver Page Based On A CSS Layout

CSS is a far more complex technology than HTML and using CSS to control the layout of your pages requires experience. Fortunately, Dreamweaver contains a wide variety of CSS layouts which can be used to create both individual pages and also templates which can then be used to generate multiple pages.

To gain access to Dreamweaver's preset CSS layouts, simply choose New from the File menu. The New Document window gives access to all the different types of web page that Dreamweaver is capable of creating. These page types are arranged in categories and CSS layouts are available both in the Blank Page and Blank Template categories.

If you choose the option "None" in the Layout column, no CSS file will be created; Dreamweaver will simply give you a blank HTML or XHTML page. Clicking on the name of each of the preset layouts displays a preview on the right. This gives you a rough idea of what the layout will look like. There are three column, two column and single column layouts available. These layouts use certain jargon that you may find confusing such as elastic, fixed liquid and hybrid. We will discuss these terms in another tutorial. At the moment, we are just concerned with creating an HTML page which is driven by one of Dreamweaver's CSS layouts.

Having chosen a CSS layout, before clicking on the "Create" button you need to specify the manner in which the CSS code will be linked to the HTML document. Next to the option labelled "Layout CSS" is a drop-down menu containing three options: "Add to Head" will place all of the CSS code inside the HTML document in the head section; as the name suggests, "Add to New File", will create a new external CSS file containing all the necessary code; "Link to Existing File" will put the CSS code in an existing CSS file you designate. The final option is useful if you are adding the page to an existing site that already has a CSS file which you want to continue using.

As a general rule, it is normally preferable to place the CSS in an external file since this offers you greater flexibility in reusing the CSS rules contained in the file. If you don't have an existing CSS file then choose "Create New File" and then click the Create button. Dreamweaver will prompt you to choose a location for the CSS file and will suggest a cryptic name, such as " twoColElsLtHdr.css". Feel free to enter a more memorable name. When you click the Save button, Dreamweaver will create both the HTML and CSS pages.

A few tips I will leave with you about 3 way networks:

1. DON'T TAKE MY WORD FOR IT - If you want to test it, test it on sites that are marginally important so that you can find out for yourself if it is good.

2. CONTINUE TO LINK TRADE IN OTHER PLACES - It is definitely dangerous to leave all your linking in only one place. IF you will build a strong network of links all over the net, it will be much better. This will disguise any possible footprint...even though I have not found this to be a problem any way.

3. IT DON'T HELP PR - It didn't help my sites with PR anyway. I find PR to be not such a huge factor in rankings anyway. While I dod keep an aye on it some, I don't base my SEo solely around the concept like some SEO "experts".

4. YOU NEED SOME WEBMASTER SKILLS - The install of the code could make a web newbie cringe, but it is not difficult. IF you need help, email me.

5. CHOOSE THE RIGHT KEYWORDS - I usually pick highly related keywords that are not going against huge competition in terms of sites optimizing for it AND also produces a good bit of traffic according to Google's Adword Keyword Tool.
